EXPLANATION: To ensure the correct first time installation of your printer, consumables and software, be sure to follow the Setup Guide supplied in the product's box. See below for some additional guidance. Finding a place for the printer Choose a location that has adequate space for easy operation and maintenance. Leave adequate room around the printer to allow for sufficient ventilation. Use the following illustration as a guide for the amount of space required around the printer to ensure smooth operation.
We recommend placing the printer on a flat, stable surface such as a desk or the optional cabinet. Be sure to lift the printer by the correct positions as shown below.
Caution: In addition to space considerations, always heed the following precautions when finding a place to locate the printer:. Place the printer where you can easily unplug the power cord. Avoid using an electrical outlet that is controlled by wall switches or automatic timers. Accidental disruption of power can erase valuable information in your computer's and printer's memory. Avoid locations that are subject to direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture, or dust.
Setting up the printer Make sure that you remove all packaging and tape from the printer and under the scanner lid. Set the scanner lock to the unlock position ready for scanning operation and close the scanner lid. Do not power on the printer until instructed to do so. Installing the toner cartridge.
Open the front cover ( cover A). Remove the developer unit cartridge from the printer, lifting it up and towards you from the rear of the developer.
Caution: Be careful not to touch the fuser, which is marked CAUTION HOT SURFACE, or surrounding areas. If the printer has been in use, the fuser and the surrounding areas may be very hot. If you must touch of these areas, wait 30 minutes to allow the heat subside before doing so. Set the lever, on the left of the cartridge case, to the unlock position. Remove the new toner cartridge from its packaging.
Shake the toner cartridge a few times to distribute the toner. Carefully remove the toner seal from the cartridge. Caution: Never touch the developing roller that is exposed after removing the protective cover; otherwise, print quality may decline. Insert the new toner cartridge into the cartridge case, use the small alignment pin ( 1), then push down on both sides ( 2) of the toner cartridge.
Caution:. The toner cartridge is not an independent unit that you install directly into the printer.
The cartridge needs to be inserted into the developer unit's casing and then installed into the printer. Do not dispose of used consumable products in fire, as they may explode and cause injury. Dispose of them according to local regulations. Set the cartridge case lever to the lock position.
Insert the developer cartridge into the printer. Close the front cover (cover A). Loading paper and making time/date settings. Remove the lower paper tray and adjust the paper guides accordingly before loading plain A4-size paper into the tray, ensuring that the stack remains below the triangle loading mark. Then insert the paper cassette tray into the printer. Connect the power cable and power on the printer. The language selection screen is displayed on the printer's LCD panel.
Use the Up or Down button to select your language and press OK to select it. Set the time and the local time difference usinng the 4-way arrow keys. Once you have finished making settings, press OK. Fax models (AcuLaser MX20DNF) only: You see the Aria Settings screen. Use the Up or Down key to scroll through the list of countries in the menu and press OK to select your country. The printer will now start charging the toner.
This will take 15 minutes. Do not turn the printer off during this time; otherwise, this may cause the printer to malfunction.
Note: The machine must complete a calibration cycle to charge the toner. If you power off the printer, open the scanner unit or the front cover before the calibration is complete, the calibration will stop. When the printer has finished calibrating, press the Setting button. You see the Settings screen.
Press the Down key to select System Information, and then press OK. You see the System Information screen. Press the Down key to select System Report Printing, and then press OK. Select Status Sheet and press OK. The Data light on the printer's control panel flashes and a status sheet is printed and ejected. This confirms the printer operation and allows you to view system information. Installing the printer software on a computer for the first time.
Connect the printer's interface cable to the computer. You can choose between a USB or Ethernet (10/100 BaseTX) connection method.
